Sera Jey international online school was formally established on 10th December 2020 commemorating the auspicious day of the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. To respond to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s vision to preserve and sustain Tibetan language, culture, and religion, the Sera Jey Buddhist centre in Switzerland opened an online Tibetan language class in the year 2020. This was during the hardest time of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown all over the world. This platform was specifically created for those Tibetans who showed keen enthusiasm to learn Tibetan language.
Creating this opportunity for young people was a community service Sera Jey was honoured to offer. The school formally opened at Tashi Choeling Educational Center of Sera Jey Monastery. Today the school has about 1500 students from 16 different countries with 38 teachers all operating online. The dedication of staff members and teachers have made this one of the biggest online schools within a short period of time. The interest and appreciation shown for this program by Tibetans in the diaspora in learning our culture, religion, and language is what keeps the program thriving.
